Eager Coliseum fans determined not to miss NEXT YEAR'S panto!

Date published: 12 November 2018

Saturday (November 10) saw eager pantomime fans queue outside Oldham Coliseum Theatre to book the very first tickets for 2019-2020’s pantomime.

The opening day of this year’s pantomime - 2018-19's is Cinderella - is traditionally the day the theatre announces the pantomime for the following year, with a huge poster going up outside the Fairbottom Street building and tickets going on sale from 10am.

First in the queue was Jackie Fallon from Moorside.

She’s been going to the panto for years, but this was her first year queueing.

Jackie said: “Every year by the time I call the tickets I want have gone – we come on Christmas Eve and I want to sit on the front row of the circle so I thought I’d try queueing this year.”

Lilian Melville travels all the way from Ormskirk every year.

She has been queuing on the first day for a massive 40 years, but has been going to the Coliseum panto for much longer.

When asked why she travels so far and has been doing so for so many years she said simply: “It’s the best panto around.”

The 2019-2020 pantomime will be Jack and the Beanstalk.

Oldham Coliseum Theatre’s nationally renowned pantomime has been putting the extra sparkle into the festive season for generations; with all the ingredients for fantastic family fun: hit songs, silliness, a sprinkling of fairy dust and a generous helping of It’s Behind You!

Poor young lad Jack sells his cow for magic beans, much to the dismay of his mother.

But when the beans grow into a gigantic beanstalk Jack sets off for an adventure in the magical land above the clouds.

With two fairies, a magic hen, a giant and a pantomime cow, Jack and the Beanstalk is a traditional family pantomime with a modern twist - the perfect Christmas treat for kids and no-so-grown-up grown-ups.
