Staff and customers at the Rose of Lancaster, Chadderton, have celebrated raising £13,000 in the last twelve months for Prostate Cancer UK

The money was raised through various fundraising initiatives including race nights, pub quizzes and raffles plus a “Predict the Scores” football competition that has over 140 members.

It brings the total raised by the Rose of Lancaster and customers for Prostate Cancer to £30,000 in three years.

In the UK, 1 in 8 men will get Prostate Cancer at some point in their lifetime and it is the most common cause of death in men.  Prostate Cancer UK provide funds to develop better treatments and better tests that can spot fast-growing cancers early, and could be used in a screening programme.

Anthony Walton, General Manager, The Rose of Lancaster, said: “We’ve adopted Prostate Cancer UK as our charity to raise awareness amongst our community.  We are proud that three men here today, Jim Foran, Will Irving and Keith Edgeley have successfully battled this disease. These are great people who are not only part of our brilliant pub community, but have become folk to be admired and will always be there for advice should any of us be faced with this potentially life-threatening form of cancer.

“In three years, our fundraising has raised over £30,000 and this year we were delighted that JW Lees brewery has also adopted Prostate Cancer UK as their charity for the year. We would like to thank all of our customers and our team for being so generous in helping our fundraising.”

William Lees-Jones, Managing Director at JW Lees, praised the fundraising efforts. “The team at the Rose of Lancaster have done a great job raising money for Prostate Cancer UK and raising awareness of the battle that many face. This year JW Lees won Best Brewing Pub Company at the Publican Awards; we’ve put the brewery and our people at the heart of our business, and our landlords and landladies, like Anthony and Angela, put the pub at the heart of their community.”

In addition to their charitable work, the team at the Rose of Lancaster have spent the last few weeks celebrating their reopening of the pub following a £100k development that has transformed the restaurant and tap room giving it a stylish and contemporary new look.
