An avalanche of Oldham’s enthusiastic young talent turned out for a hectic question and answer session with the town’s top civic team.

The Mayor, Cllr Ginny Alexander, her consort Adrian Alexander and Oldham’s Youth Mayor, Samah Khalil, led a Question and Answer session in the Council Chambers  — and more than 85 scouts turned up.

The 9th Oldham Fitton Hill are in the green and yellow ties, 15th Waterhead Oldham are in dark and light blue tie, and10th Oldham Knolls Lane are in grey and red ties.

The event was organised by Cllr Steve Hewitt who said proudly: “Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers attended. It was a really impressive turn out.”

And mayor Ginny said: “Some fantastic questions were asked to myself and the Youth Mayor. We explained our roles and what we do to promote what we have in Oldham and the fundraising for our charities.

“We had some fun and was lovely to see all the children and teenagers in uniform and how smart they looked.”

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers  go camping and take part in fun activities in a weekend packed with archery, canoeing, swimming, building, climbing, shooting,  go-carting, singalongs and competitions all to varying levels depending on age.

They are supervised by volunteers, many former scouts when they were younger,  with some in the movement more than 50 years.
