Date published: 22 October 2021

Dr Kershaws Hospice in Royton is to open a new store selling new and old furniture to help raise funds for patient care.

'The Furniture Hub' is located five minutes from the hospice in Neo House, Shaw Road.

The new store which will be officially opened on Thursday 4th November by The Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Jenny Harrison and will sell high quality new and used furniture, ranging from small coffee tables to three piece suites.

The shop will also feature a coffee area serving hot drinks and snacks.

There will also be an option for customers to have their furniture delivered from the new store at a small cost to local destinations.

Joanne Sloan, Chief Executive at Dr Kershaw’s said: "We’ve wanted to launch a furniture store for quite some time and we are delighted to have found a location right on our doorstep. We can’t wait to welcome the community to our new store, which will raise vital funds for patient care in Oldham."

As the project launches, Dr Kershaw’s are collecting furniture to sell in their new store.  If you are able to donate your old furniture, the hospice can arrange collection and will sell the furniture to generate funds to support patient care.

Once the store is open, you are able to drop off your furniture direct to the store, and staff and volunteers will be happy to help you unload your items.

Rebecca Bentham, Director of Income Development and Marketing at the Hospice says the new store will be a welcome addition to the organisation's three hospice shops.

"The Furniture Hub is the next step in Dr Kershaw’s expansion plan to open up a broader range of stores across Oldham. The support from our volunteers is essential, as is the kindness of the community who have enabled our plans to become a reality."

The store will also play host to a Knitting Club for volunteers, as well as restoration classes to bring unloved items back to life. More activities for volunteers to sign up to at The Furniture Hub will be announced soon.
