Community event with TV gardener David Domoney raises money to fund cancer research

Manchester-based garden retailer J. Parker’s welcomed renowned horticulturist and TV garden presenter David Domoney to their Daisy Nook Garden Centre in Failsworth to hold a community fundraising event in support of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust while also continuing their work of creating meaningful horticultural events in Greater Manchester.

At the event, Domoney delivered a talk on the ‘Top Seasonal Plants’, selecting some of the best plants for spring and sharing planting and care tips to provide inspiration for keen gardeners in the local area.

Ticket sales from the event raised £750, with all proceeds going towards supporting the work of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Europe’s largest single-site cancer centre, and its vital cancer research. 

David Domoney said, “I really enjoyed sharing some practical planting inspiration and highlighting some of the finest seasonal stars for the garden with a great audience today. It’s wonderful that the event is also supporting a deserving cause.”

This event marks the continuation of J. Parker’s In The Community initiative, which aims to create accessible and valuable horticultural experiences for residents across Greater Manchester. It builds on a series of events hosted at Daisy Nook Garden Centre this year, including a recent event supporting Women in Horticulture as well as a free monthly gardening club, providing educational support to local schools and inspiring keen young gardeners across Manchester.

Building on this work within the local community, this summer J. Parker’s will also work alongside pupils from Worthington Primary School to create an international garden, celebrating the school’s multicultural makeup through garden design. As well as a project with a primary school in Sale, Greater Manchester to support students as they design and create a bee-friendly border for the Chorley Flower Show in July.
