The Salvation Army is celebrating the Oldham community spirit thanks to the support it receives throughout the year from an army of volunteers.
Giving thanks this Volunteers Week (1-6 June), The Salvation Army in Oldham receives support from a number of volunteers who give up their spare time to play a vital role in ensuring its community outreach work can continue supporting the most vulnerable members of the Oldham community as household bills remain high, food prices continue to rise and more people are pushed into poverty.
Located on Roundthorn Road in Oldham, volunteers help The Salvation Army in providing support across many areas including community drop-in which runs weekly on a Friday.
Maisie Veacock, church leader of The Salvation Army in Oldham said: “Volunteers are a very special part of our church and we’re so thankful for all that they do to ensure our work can continue as without them giving up their time so generously, we simply couldn’t do as much as we do and the people in need within our community would sadly suffer. The time our volunteers dedicate to supporting us really does transform the community that we serve, they are truly inspirational.
“Volunteering isn’t just about helping, it is about being an active and integral part of an organisation and our volunteers bring ideas that inspire and challenge us to be better, making a real difference to everyone and allowing us to support more people in Oldham. We are privileged to serve alongside them.”
