Doreen Muriel Brooks

Died peacefully, aged 85, on 9th February, 2021 at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

She will be much missed by her husband Edward, her children Sharon, Annette, Janice and David, her eight Grandchildren and two Great grandchildren.

Those who knew Doreen will have been touched by her life’s purpose, which was to love, help and fight for those most in need. The death of her first born child Cheryl, sadly after only 12 weeks, drove this passion to help others. As a teacher, she focused on children with special educational needs, a job that she loved despite the challenges. She was well respected by her peers, and is fondly remembered  by many parents for her heartfelt support of their children.

Even in Doreen's everyday contact with people, she wanted to hear about their lives and what mattered to them. Her amazing ability to recall the detail of these conversations was her way of caring for people - as were her many posts on Facebook. Her indulgences were few - a shared coffee and cake whilst out, finding that special something in a charity shop, walking with Eddie in the  Saddleworth countryside,  then rounding off  their day with the Guardian crossword.

Doreen will be cremated and, when the family can come together, her ashes will be scattered in the Life for a Life memorial forest close to Dove Stones. Going back to a beautiful place where the family enjoyed many outings - a good place to come to rest.
