Choir leader is an inspiration
AN inspirational gospel choir leader has been nominated for her relentless commitment to her group.
Kadria Thomas received the nomination for creating a strong group of singers, building their confidence and inspiring them.
Kadria has led Soul Inspiration Gospel Choir since it was established three years ago. She applied for the job because of a love for music.
Every Wednesday evening, the 52-year-old proves her dedication by travelling from her Prestwich home to the Shaw-based group.
Since 2010, Kadria’s hard work has seen the choir grow from only six original members to a healthy 25.
Anyone is welcomed into the group with open arms, with no auditions or experience necessary.
Kadria said: “It’s not just a job to me, it’s a true passion. I love music, singing and everything about it.
“Singing and working with the group makes me really happy.”
As well as meeting and singing just for fun, the choir has built a strong reputation and is regularly booked to play at weddings, parties and other private and public events.
It has also appeared and performed on BBC Radio Manchester.
Kadria was nominated by choir member Sheila Cronley on behalf of the group.
She said: “She gives us a sense of achievement through harmony in music.
“We’ve achieved so much with her leadership and tuition and she makes us feel young.
“Everywhere we’ve performed we have asked us to return. She’s an inspiration to us all.”
