Hearing Resource Centre
Life changing support by the Hearing Resource Centre, based at Hathershaw Academy, is enabling young deaf children to be fully understood for the very first time.
Set up in 2002, a total of 11 staff help 27 pupils who have a range of hearing problems from mild impairment to total hearing loss with their studies and progress in school.
They were nominated by a grateful parent who praised team members for a miraculous change in her son who is now bursting with confidence.
Eric Crompton
Helping children become better citizens is why 85-year-old school governor Eric Crompton was nominated.
A governor at St Thomas’ Moorside since 1998 and now a chairman of the federation St Thomas’ and East Crompton St James’, he has been instrumental in the development of the schools.
Eric was praised for his fantastic people skills and for the excellent relationships he had built up over the years.
Lorna Philip
A passion for sports among primary schools is what has earned Lorna Philip a well-deserved nomination.
Alongside her role as Hathershaw College assistant headteacher, she leads the Hathershaw Sports Cluster, which sees 18 local primary schools take part in up to 25 different sporting events.
Lorna organises competitions, arranges training for primary school teachers, sets up visits by inspirational figures and co-ordinates the work of Oldham Sports Development officers at the schools.
