Getting out of their comfort zone proved the perfect way for Hathershaw College pupils to make new friends.
The 136 Year 7 students got to know each other better – and push themselves to try new things – during an action-packed trip to the Anderton outdoor education centre near Chorley.
And they mostly managed to stay dry when they canoed near Rivington Pike, with just one pupil falling into the water.
They also took part in a challenge to see how high they could stack plastic crates before they toppled – while a couple of brave classmates (who were attached to a safety harness of course) stood on the top.
Other activities were archery, a two-hour night hike, a scavenger hunt and toasted marshmallows and ghost stories around a camp fire.
Assistant principal Lorna Philip said: “The activities were designed to encourage team building and push the pupils to challenge themselves.
“It was a really successful trip; some students had never stayed away from home and some couldn’t even make their beds! They really entered into the spirit of it and certainly developed resilience.”
