Arts show proves a big hit

Fatima Din won the Best Overall Achievement prize

Hopwood Hall College’s annual ‘End of Year Arts Show’ saw local members of the public pack out the College’s Arts departments to view students’ galleries.

The students, who study either Textiles and Fashion, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Creative Media or Games Design courses, displayed their final projects for friends, family, Hopwood Hall College staff and members of the public.

Hundreds of pieces of work were displayed, including fine art pieces, film works, graphic illustrations, games designs and textiles creations.

The open event also hosted the students’ awards ceremony for progress and achievement in the arts. New for the awards was the ‘Glennis Brierley: Celebrating a Creative Life’ award, dedicated to the memory of former tutor Glennis.

Hopwood Hall College Vice Principal, Julia Heap, was on hand to present the Fine Art and Textiles and Fashion students with their awards.

The top two awards were won by Grace Allaby (Glennis Brierly award) and Fatima Din (Best Overall Achievement).

While presenting the awards, Julia Heap said to the gathered audience: “I’ve been blown away by the exceptional talents of all our Hopwood Hall College learners who have showcased their work tonight.

“There has been a fantastic buzz throughout the evening, it’s really encouraging to see so many members of the public visit our College and see the next generation of creatives’ work. “Similarly it has been a privilege to witness them share the celebration with their families and extremely proud staff members.

“I very much look forward to seeing many of these students apply their skills in the creative-industries post-education.”
