Spanish exchange students enjoy a warm Oldham welcome

Date published: 09 November 2018

Spanish exchange students from IES Manuel Gutierrez Aragón in Torrelavega, Spain, spent a week with counterparts from Oldham Sixth Form College recently.

During their week-long stay in Oldham, the students visited local sights and Liverpool, had a welcome by the OSFC Principal, Jayne Clarke, received talks about the educational system in the UK and took part in lessons at OSFC.

The Spanish students also enjoyed a two-day work experience placement at St Thomas CofE Primary School in Werneth.

During this placement, the students assisted the class teachers by offering a range of Spanish tasters and songs.

The Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Javid Iqbal, also gave the Spanish students a warm welcome to the Parlour and the silverware area at the Civic Centre.

It was an excellent way of celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the exchange.

Oldham students are now looking forward to visiting Spain at the end of January/beginning of February 2019.

AS Spanish student Poppy Corbett-Wood said: ‘I think the exchange is a great opportunity to meet new people and test your language skills.

“You learn vocabulary that you wouldn’t normally look at in College.

“It is a great experience and helps build your confidence.”

Euane Ogwind added: “The exchange was really fun.

“From when I met my exchange partner, Javier, we got on well and he enjoyed his visit to Oldham too.”
