Latics drew 1-1 against Barnet
Michael Mellon's second-half spot-kick rescued a point for Latics as they drew against Barnet at Boundary Park.
Micky Mellon Snr's side went into the game having won their previous three, keeping clean sheets in all of them, but the Londoners dominated the first half.
Barnet took the lead in the fifth minute after a corner brushed Mike Fondop's fingertips and referee Sebastian Stockbridge pointed to the spot.
Mark Shelton showed great composure against his former club to put Barnet ahead, although the midfielder was booked for his celebrations in front of the home supporters.
It was practically Shelton's last act – as injury forced him off in the 17th minute – and the remainder descended into a scrappy affair with Barnet protecting their lead.
But second-half substitutions paid off for the hosts as a patient Latics side were back on level terms when Donervon Daniels was bundled over in the box, and Mellon Jnr levelled from the spot in the 71st minute.
It could have gone either way after that as Mellon junior was twice denied by Barnet goalkeeper Cieran Slicker, while Tom Conlon cleared off the line for the hosts.
Latics boss Mellon Snr said: "We've done well, we've played well.
"We'll probably come away from that talking about missed chances again a little bit, but certainly it's not a team that lacks character and ability."
