League places to be determined by points percentage

Date published: 16 February 2021

League places in both the Betfred Championship and Betfred League 1 will be determined in the coming season by points percentage because clubs and the RFL accept that games might be affected by Covid.

Fixtures and kick-off times are always subject to change, but even more so this year because of the pandemic.

Postponements will be allowed if a team loses seven or more players for Covid-related reasons and if there isn't a free date for a rearranged game, the fixture will be cancelled.

The RFL has also confirmed that, in the interests of player welfare, golden-point extra time will be suspended this year, although it is planned to reintroduce it in 2022.

Over the next few days, the sport's governing body will be working with clubs, broadcasters and streaming partners to determine exactly when opening Championship games will be played over Easter weekend and to also confirm final arrangements for the first round of the Betfred Challenge Cup, to be played over the weekend of March 20 and 21.

Championship games played behind closed doors will be live streamed on the Our League app and website with home season-ticket holders given free access to their club’s live stream and all other fans able to watch via pay-per-view.

Some Betfred Challenge Cup games will be live streamed by the BBC and Betfred with others available on Our League.

Exact details covering games in round two onwards of the Championship will be confirmed in the coming weeks when, hopefully, Government announcements will give a clearer indication of when fans will be back in the grounds.
