The plan is for Beth Sutcliffe to develop a pathway for women’s rugby league in Oldham
Talk-of the-town Oldham RLFC, who are planning to hit Super League in three or four years, have appointed former England Women’s international Beth Sutcliffe (41) to lead long-term plans for the creation of a Roughyeds’ women’s team.
The plan is for Beth to develop a pathway for women’s rugby league in Oldham and to eventually form an Oldham team.
“We need to get the pathways in place," said Beth, who is a trustee of Rugby League Cares.
Oldham fans will get their first glimpse of their expensive, new-look squad when Sean Long’s men go head to head with Keighley Cougars away in a pre-season match on Boxing Day – the first time in nearly 30 years they have not enjoyed Christmas pud the day before.
By then, former Rochdale winger Cian Tyrer, who has signed for Oldham on trial, hopes to know whether he will be offered a 2024 contract.
He’s a cousin of Oldham’s Kieran Tyrer, whose father, Sean, also played for Oldham.
