The traditional duck race at next month's eagerly-awaited Saddleworth Show promises to be another 'quacking' contest!
The sponsored ducks are agains set to race head-to-head at 4pm at the Saddleworth Show on Sunday, June 25, on the riverside along the show site at Well-i-Hole Farm in Greenfield.
The first duck to cross the winning line will pocket £250, while the runner-up gets £100 and the third-placed duck wins £50.
Ducks will cost £2 each to sponsor, or you can adopt three for £5.
Cash and card payments will be welcome on the day, between 10am and just before the race gets under way.
Organisers have great plans for the Saddleworth Show on Sunday, June 25.
All the favourites will feature again, including Country Corner, an extended dog show to include Retrieval, Agility and Rallying, a Punch and Judy, Kids, Magic Shows and Pony Rides.
This year the event also welcomes a light sabre group who will give anyone of any age training in light sabre fighting as well as professional demonstrations - so go and “let the force awaken within you”.
Meanwhile, teenagers, who will have auditioned with Mahdlo Youth Centre and Oldham Music Centre, will be performing on stage throughout the day.
The winners at the auditions will also perform at Wellifest.
Don't miss out on the biggest fun weekend in the area.
Tickets for Wellifest, the community family music event which is to be held the evening before, on Saturday, June 24, are selling fast and are once again likely to completely sell out.
The line-up promises DJ sets from Mike Sweeney of BBC Radio Manchester fame and headline acts, Manchester Ska Foundation and Foo FighterZ, and other popular bands who will be rocking from 12.30pm to 9.30pm.
There will be increased bar capacity and several new food outlets, as well as traditional ones.
Speaking on behalf of the organising committee, co-chairs Frank Bolger and Clint Elliott, said: “We are confident 2023 will be the biggest and best events we have ever staged.
“Many more local good causes and charities will benefit once again from the hard work.
“The funds raised in 2022 helped hundreds of families struggling in these difficult times, and hopefully 2023 will allow this support to continue and even increase in the year.”
