College earns Diamond Healthy School Award

HATHERSHAW College has become the first secondary school in Oldham to achieve a top award for its work to support the health and wellbeing of staff, pupils and parents.
It has been presented with a Diamond Healthy School Award, the highest level available from the scheme. The Bellfied Avenue school has introduced a range of opportunities to help pupils become more active such as the FRESH programme of nutrition and exercise sessions.
Mile
Pupils are also encouraged to walk a mile each day at school, take part in the free, weekly 2k Junior Parkrun in Alexandra Park and attend a breakfast club.
Health checks have been held for staff who have taken part in a range of after-school activities - from balloon decorating to cake making and golf - designed to improve their wellbeing.
The school has also created a social networking guide for parents to help their children stay safe on-line.
