AN OLDHAM acting academy is celebrating the start of its students' careers after 10 children were selected for an acting agency.

The children, ranging from six to 15-year-olds, from The Sarah Byrne Acting Academy, were selected by PHA Agency, Manchester, and can now look forward to their careers taking off.

Teacher Sarah Byrne, a former "Shameless" actress from Oldham, will continue to give the children guidance as they hone their skills. Sarah used her connections with the agency to set up a casting day for the children.

While not all of the children were selected Sarah said they need not worry as all it means is that they are not quite ready yet.

She said: "We have had ten children selected for the PHA Agency, Manchester and they range from six to 15-year-olds. The agency will look at finding them work now, it is the start of their careers. I have been an actor myself for so long I have got connections with the agency.

"Basically I know the agency and I told them about the children and they did a casting day. It was organised in Manchester and they all did their auditions and she selected the ones who were ready.

"The opportunity is still there for those who didn't quite make it this time, some people need a little more confidence, sometimes it is the timing."
