A BRIDE-TO-BE has been left heartbroken by the shock closure of the hotel where she was due to marry in a fortnight.

The plans of Kimberley Ryan (25) have been thrown into jeopardy after the Broadfield Hotel, in Rochdale town centre, went into administration and was boarded up.

Kimberley, of Pickford Walk, Royton, was due to hold both her wedding and reception at the Broadfield on September 13, having paid the £3,000 balance on August 19 and a £400 deposit two years ago.

She and fiancé Philip Wood, who have a three-year-old son Lewis, are among the couples left frantically trying to find and alternative venues for their big day. One was due to marry at the Broadfield tomorrow, but there are now industrial bins blocking the entrance.

Distraught Kimberly was at a wedding dress fitting when her family found out the news on Wednesday evening.

The nursery nurse said: “I was devastated. I can’t explain how I felt, it was dreadful. Two weeks before you are getting married it’s just not what you want to hear.

“We did not find out through the hotel. We found out through the company with which we booked our wedding cars.

“We had heard a couple of weeks ago that this was going to happen so we went into the hotel and spoke to them.

“They told us there wasn’t a problem, it was just a rumour. They said everything would be perfect.

“We returned a few days later and they asked us to pay. We had sorted everything out. I feel as if I have been cheated.”

Kimberley was determined not cancel and faced a race against time to find other venues.

Oldham Register Office has said it can accommodate the ceremony while another hotel can hold the reception.

She now has an anxious wait to find out if she will get the money back for the original booking through the credit card company.

Her angry mother, Beverley Ryan, of Crossley Street, Royton, said: “The pair of us just keep crying. It feels as though somebody has died in the family, we are so distraught. It is a nightmare

“Kimberley has been planning this for two years. We are starting again and we had enough to do with with just finalising things.”

Colin Burke from administrator Milner, Boardman and Partners confirmed that the hotel went into administration on August 7, but that a new company took over for three weeks with the intention of buying the business.

However, it was not in a position to do so and the hotel closed.

Mr Burke confirmed that people who paid by credit card should be able to get their money back from their company.

Unfortunately, this is not the case for cash, cheque or debit card payments.

The administrators are in the process of writing to people with bookings. The contact number pinned on the door of the hotel is wrong and should be 0161-927 7788.
