BUDDING journalists can hone their skills on a new degree course at University Centre Oldham.
The Digital Journalism course has been introduced to enable students to work in radio, television and internet.
The degree will cover ways to identify and research stories, script writing, interviewing, technical recording, editing, web uploading, generating content for different types of media, media law and deadlines.
To help with their course, students can take advantage of the new digital centre which will be housed in the £5 million University Centre development that is due to open this month.
Senior lecturer Mark Handscomb said: “Digital media represents the future.
“Anyone who wants to learn the practical skills needed to shoot pictures and record audio that can be broadcast on the internet, as well as on mainstream media, will be interested in the University Centre’s course.
“The course will enable students to work in a multi-platform environment, whether it is in television production, radio or on line journalism.
“There has never been a more exciting time to train as a journalist working in the digital age in the North-West of England.”
Lecturers are hoping that Salford’s Media City teamed with the BBC’s investment in the area will help students forge a career.
Anyone interested can visit the centre on Thursday, 1-7pm, or contact Mark on 0161-213 5000
