Actress Chris dies aged 69
Date published: 14 January 2010
A GREENFIELD actress who worked with Morecambe and Wise and Mike and Bernie Winters has died.
Chris Langford (69) was known for her role in “The One’O’Clock Show” in the Tyne Tees television region.
The mother of two, who was also a professional singer, died on January 6 in hospital.
Mrs Langford was working as a solicitor’s secretary in Manchester and studying law when she decided to enter a talent show — which she won. Tyne Tees Television’s Len Martin was in the audience and he invited her to an audition in Newcastle.
The five-year contract she was offered led her to pursue a career in singing and move to the North-East.
She settled in Monkseaton, where she lived with her husband Jim Goldby, later a director at Tyne Tees, and their two children.
She sang with the big bands of the era and worked alongside Morecambe and Wise and Mike and Bernie Winters.
In the early 1980s Mrs Langford moved back to Greenfield and married Richard Guinea.
The funeral service will take place on Monday at St Mary’s Church in Greenfield, at 1pm, followed by committal at Dukinfield Crematorium at 2.30pm.
