Booze-fuelled assaults lead to jail

THUG Garry Brookes has been jailed for five months for separate attacks on two female students and three police.
The assaults, in February and last month, were fuelled by drink: “You have an appalling record that is littered with offences of damage and assaults on the police and members of the public,” said the judge at Manchester City Magistrates’ Court.
Brookes (25), of Old Road, Failsworth, was convicted on charges of common assault and assaulting police. On February 15 after hours of drinking, he swore at students while staggering about in Fallowfield, and later punched one and slapped another.
Weeks later, Brookes suffered head and face injuries in Manchester but refused to have treatment despite police insistence. When they asked him to go to hospital he turned violent, hit one officer in the face, elbowed another and headbutted a third.
David Philpott, defending, said Brookes had problems with alcohol.
