Crossword puzzles and keeping active might be the key to a long and healthy life.
And Bertha Taylor should know: she celebrates her 103rd birthday today.
Bertha is having a party at her home, Charles Morris House in Failsworth, with friends,a dn is expecting a special visit from the Mayor and Mayoress.
The home’s Lynn Linekar said: “She’s a lovely lady who is very affectionate, friendly and independent. She’s loved by all the other residents.”
Born in 1911, Bertha - who likes to be called Bert - was raised in the Ordnance Arms, Glodwick and went on to become a landlady in several local pubs, at first with her husband Leonard.
She worked in the drink and catering industries from a young age, and spent her later working years at Brian Mill in Shaw.
Bertha was very active until six months ago, when she had a fall left her with limited mobility.
