Transformed park in line for award
Date published: 03 July 2014
Oldham‘s Alexandra Park has the chance to shine on television in a major National Lottery award scheme.
The park is competing against six other organisations to win the “Best Heritage” category and £2,000 at the BBC One awards in September. The park is one of more than 750 entries in the public vote.
A decade ago, National Lottery funding restored the once-magnificent but faded park.
Councillor Dave Hibbert said, “We’re delighted to have reached the finals of the awards. Lottery money has really helped us to restore Cotton Famine Park (the park’s original name) to its former glory.
“We are hoping people will support us: it would be a fantastic reward for everyone involved in the project.”
Vote for the park at www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards, and follow the campaign on Twitter at #NLAwards. Voting runs until midnight on July 23.
