A PROJECT supporting young people in Oldham to engage with their communities has been celebrated in a showcase event.

The Intermix Project, which was set up after the 2011 riots by youth support charity Rathbone, was created to give young people an opportunity to explore the themes of community and social isolation through creative arts.

It aims to give young people a voice to express their views on issues that matter to them.

Held at West Lancashire College, in Skelmersdale, guests were given a flavour of the arts by young people from Oldham, Rochdale, Belfast and Sandwell,

The showcase event included a drama piece acted out by youngsters from Rathbone Oldham, a video by young people from Rathbone Sandwell and a song performed by a group from Rathbone Belfast.

“The event was a fantastic celebration of the powerful work done by young people through Intermix and an insight into the lasting impact the project has made in their lives,” said Kirsty Beeston, national participation adviser for Rathbone. “The funding for Intermix has now come to an end but it is important that the good work continues and I hope that the event will help us to secure further support to enable us to take the project forward.”

The Oldham youngsters also gave a presentation on the achievements and future ambitions of the project.
