Playwright goes back to her theatre roots
Date published: 18 July 2014
AN Oldham-born writer returned to her old stomping ground to watch emerging talent tread the boards.
Playwright Christina Castling (née Maiden) joined the Coliseum’s Young Rep Company to begin rehearsals on her play “The Last Word”.
The production is a fast-moving fairy tale set in a mythical country where words mysteriously begin to disappear.
Before studying English at Durham University, Christina attended Crompton House School in Shaw. She developed her love of drama and the theatre while she was a member of Oldham Theatre Workshop, using those influences in her writing.
Her inspiration for the play came through her love of words and what effects they can have.
Christina (28) said: “It gave me the confidence to take writing more seriously. Prior to that I had been writing odd bits, but never really thought it would go anywhere.”
