TORRENTIAL rain didn’t dampen the spirits of youngsters competing in the Saddleworth Village Olympics over the weekend.
The competition, now in its 29th year, was almost washed out as rain dominated the opening ceremony on Saturday.
Despite the gloomy weather, hundreds of youngsters turned out at Saddleworth School as competitors paraded their village banners.
The games were officially opened by Richard Bartlett, Saddleworth Rotary Club President, while the Games’ motto was proclaimed by young competitor Denzel Brown of the Delph and Denshaw team.
Over the next three weeks the games will see children aged 7-16 representing their villages in a variety of sports.
