118 council jobs could go
Date published: 03 October 2014
OLDHAM Council is planning to axe up to 118 jobs to help save £35 million in the next financial year.
The proposed job cuts, which would happen in 2015-16, were announced to staff yesterday.
The council has had to save £141 million in the past five years and needs to find another £60 million over the next two years.
Formal discussions have opened with staff and trade unions on the proposals, which will go to the full council meeting on December 17.
The council is also working on ways to cut the remaining £25 million in 2016/17 — and admits that it may be forced to stop providing some services.
