Boost for youth in new job figures

JOBLESSNESS in Oldham continued to fall last month, with more than 200 fewer people claiming Jobseekers Allowance.
The number of men unemployed in September fell from 2,004 to 1,830, while the figure for women dropped from 1,355 to 1,285. The overall figures reduced from 3,359 to 3,115. Youth unemployment was down from 525 last month to 490 this month.
Job centre manager Trish Hallows said: “We’re having a big recruitment push, with vacancies at Shop Direct in Shaw and 800 seasonal vacancies at Royal Mail. Overall we have been quite successful but we still have more to do.”
