Candle sparks bedroom blaze
Date published: 18 November 2014
TWO men fled from a semi-detached house in Werneth after a candle sparked a bedroom fire.
A 44-year-old man was asleep when the flame set fire to a satellite TV box just after midnight on Saturday morning.
Watch Manager Tony Morgan, from Hollins Fire Station, said: “We believe a candle next to the bed heated an over-hanging satellite box on top of the TV. That caught fire and started to melt, and drips set the bedding on fire.
“Luckily a 57-year-old man was in the house. He saw the fire and woke up the sleeping man.”
