The Travelsafe team in action on the Metrolink network
Officers equipped with body cameras began patrolling Greater Manchester’s bus and tram network yesterday to crack down on crime and anti-social behaviour.
The Travelsafe Partnership is a dedicated team of 16 police constables, community support officers, special constables and security personnel who will patrol the network for the next three years.
Led by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and GMP, the scheme will use crime and anti-social behaviour data to target hotspots.
The dedicated team will provide expertise to help identify repeat offenders while the cameras and existing CCTV will gather evidence for prosecutions. The pilot will also focus on preventative measures and youth education.
Uniformed officers will visit schools to educate youngsters on the dangers and consequences of crime, anti-social behaviour and fare evasion on public transport.
