QUICK-THINKER: Daniel Jackson

A car salesman brought his colleague back to life after his heart had stopped for three minutes.

Daniel Jackson was at his desk at HPL Motors in Chadderton when he heard someone scream for an ambulance. He ran out and saw a car valeter from HPL’s Atherton branch had collapsed on the forecourt.

Daniel - who took a basic first aid course when he coached his children’s’ football teams - said: “He was pretty much gone. I started giving him CPR.”

The 34 year old, who lives in Chadderton, continued first aid until paramedics arrived and added a ventilator as Daniel continued chest compressions. Three minutes later the man’s heart started to beat again, and he was moved to the Royal Oldham Hospital by ambulance.

“I was very focused on what I was doing and I knew how important it was to do it right,” said Daniel.

“Afterwards I started shaking and had tears in my eyes from all the adrenaline and shock. The main thing is that he’s okay.”

The man, thought to be in his 60s, has been sent home from hospital and is recovering. He has been in touch to thank Daniel for saving his life.

Daniel’s wife Lynsey hopes her husband’s action encourages others to do first-aid training.

“I’m so proud of him. He was really level-headed. The paramedic told my husband he had saved the man’s life.”
