GOING nowhere . . . Councillor Ken Hulme in the unused shelter
A ticket to ride can be a problem in Diggle with a bus stop where buses never stop to drop off or pick up passengers.
For soon after the new bus stop, complete with shelter, for the 184 on the Stanedge Road was completed, the route was altered.
Now the buses run down through the village rather than along the main road.
The issue was raised at Saddleworth Parish Council this week where Councillor Ken Hulme explained that while vandalised bus shelters were a major problem in Saddleworth — one was always spared.
He said the Stanedge Road glass bus shelter in Diggle had remained in perfect condition because there were no buses.
It was only a week after the new shelter was built that the bus route changed.
But the shelter, erected last year, has not yet been taken down.
Councillor Hulme said: “This seems an awful waste of resources. There are a dozen other places in Saddleworth that can do with a bus shelter.”
