CREWS from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service responded to incidents across the region and beyond as Storm Desmond battered the North-West with high winds and driving rain.
One of the many weather-related calls saw fire crews attend Grasmere Road, Royton, where a large sheet of flat roofing threatened to fall in strong winds.
Householders concerned about trees, loose tiles and fascia boards inundated the fire service with calls.
Greater Manchester fire crews described how they rescued more than 30 people from a Carlisle street hit by high winds and flooding.
