Centenary event for education centre

Castleshaw outdoor education centre at Delph will celebrate 100 years of adventure, learning and leisure in the Pennines on May 8.
A range of activities will be held from noon until 4pm to mark the centenary of the centre’s donation to Oldham Council by Dame Sarah Lees. Activities will include search and rescue dog team demonstrations, an Oldham Music Service brass band, guided walks around the nearby Roman Fort,
a chainsaw carving demonstration and the chance to try archery, caving, rock climbing, pond dipping, Edwardian games and craft activities.

The centre was originally set up in a farmhouse in 1894 by wealthy Victorians concerned about the welfare of poorly children from less well off families.
