ROYTON is edging ever closer to having a new supermarket with construction of the new Lidl now under way.
The 22,000sq ft store on land bounded by High Street, Middleton Road and Croft Head, was given planning permission by Oldham Council last year.
The site, which previously housed Royton Assembly Hall before becoming a car park, will also contain 100 parking spaces, highway works and landscaping.
The former Albion Club was also demolished to make way for the development of the single-storey store.
The new supermarket is due to open later this year.
