EAGER young pupils from a Royton primary school swapped their uniform and pencil cases for lab coats and stethoscopes and became inspectors for the day as they took over the children's departments at The Royal Oldham Hospital this week.
The eight children from Blackshaw Lane Primary were able to visit the accident and emergency department, the children's out-patient department and the children's ward of the hospital, accompanied by Dianne Cook, lead advanced paediatric nurse practitioner (A&E), Angela Greenwood, membership manager and Joanne McAllister, voluntary service manager.
The event is part of the Children's Commissioner's takeover challenge, which gives young people the chance to take over organisations for a day, learn about the world of work and have a say in the decisions that affect them.
Angela Greenwood, Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Membership Manager, said: "Takeover is a fun, hugely successful and exciting Children and Young People's (CYP) national engagement project, led by the Children's Commissioner.
"It puts CYP into decision-making and encourages organisations, like our trust, to listen to their views and ideas."
