Excellence award for Denshaw pub couple

Date published: 28 July 2010

THE licensees of a Denshaw pub have been rewarded for their efforts to give customers wholesome and hearty grub.

Pub chain Punch Taverns handed Mark Flynn and Angela Fordham, licensees of The Golden Fleece in Ripponden Road, the pub excellence award for best food pub.

Punch’s regional operations manager Helen Fingland said: “I congratulate Mark, Angela and their team for winning this award.

“They have worked hard to establish themselves as part of the Denshaw community especially during the inclement weather in January during which time the village was cut off for over a week.

“The Golden Fleece was offering freshly baked bread and meals-on-wheels service for residents during this time.

“Their seasonal menu is full of classic dishes mixed with regional favourites like rag pudding and cheese and onion pie. They also offer a mixed tapas of all the dishes on the menu that I know from personal experience is excellent.

“They offer a cookery school to anybody wanting to improve their skills in the kitchen including children from the local high school.

“This is an excellent example of our licensees working in partnership with Punch to deliver a fantastic customer experience and we’re delighted to recognise their hard work and dedication.”

Mark, who took over the pub in July 2009, said: “We are very proud to win this award. It shows recognition for all the effort we have put in to making the Golden Fleece a great place to relax and enjoy great food in the Saddleworth area.”

Mark, Angela and the team at the Golden Fleece were also awarded a £250 experience day voucher and a certificate highlighting their achievement.
