Leaving EU will save UK billions

AS the mother of two teenage boys I have become disillusioned with the poor way in which our main parties have given away our independence to the European Union (EU), have not represented us on the main issues of today and have allowed their elected members to knowingly fiddle expenses paid for by us, the ordinary people.

We have had to pay for this via ever-increasing taxes. I cannot help but worry about what the future holds for future generations.

It is a terrifying thought that they have been saddled with a national debt that will take decades to pay off.

These elected MPs have allowed Britain to be sold off to the EU and have willingly accepted the Lisbon Treaty, which has taken away a lot of Westminster control and given the EU more control over all of the laws applying to Britain on criminal justice, immigration, policing, public services, energy, transport, tourism, sport, culture, public health and climate change.

UKIP’s plans to improve the situation.

In 2010 the UK membership fee for belonging to the EU is £15.6 billion (over £40 million per day). This money could be better used by the UK to improve our National Health Service, pensions, schools, reduce tax and national insurance and provide job opportunities for the youth of today.

Some of the things in which the EU is having a direct impact on all of us in the UK are:

::Higher council tax — we have to comply with costly EU recycling rules or Brussels imposes fines on our local councils.

::Higher gas and electricity prices — EU laws allows foreign companies to buy our utility companies, who then overcharge us.

The EU’s high renewable energy targets will cost British families £750 a year in higher energy prices — on top of the increases we are already suffering.

::Water bills are rising by 20 per cent, thanks to EU regulations.

::Higher food prices — the EU subsidises farmers, but penalises them when they grow too much which leads to higher food prices. The EU controls how much food can be grown in Europe. They pay farmers to “set aside”, in other words they are being paid not to grow crops.

This distorts prices by creating artificial shortages, and the consumers must bear the burden, paying a minimum of 20 per cent more for our food.

::We cannot control immigration — since 2004 the EU has gone from 15 countries to 27, giving tens of millions of people the right to live in the UK.

Under Labour mass immigration has added 3.5 million people — equivalent to half London’s population.

Our infrastructure cannot cope; this is about space not race. The UK is now four times as crowded as France and 12 times as crowded as the USA.

Only by leaving the EU can we regain control of our borders and take decisions in the public interest.

UKIP is the only major party committed to leaving the EU and making Britain great again.
