Leah leads the way for St Joseph’s

ST JOSEPH’S dominated the Year Five/Six race for girls in the primary section of the Oldham Schools Cross-Country Championships.

Spearheaded by Leah McDonald, they filled the first four places at Chadderton Hall Park.

McDonald was followed home by school-mate Sophia Norbury, with Ella Rigby in third and Ellie Morrison fourth.

It was hardly a surprise, therefore, that the girls picked up the team prize, from Hulme Estcourt, with Thorp in third place.

Mills Hill also had plenty to shout about.

Sophie Hall climbed to the top of the podium after victory in the Year Three/Four race for girls, from Nancy Holden (Diggle) and Ellie Clinch (Hulme Estcourt), while the boys won the Year Five/Six team event.

Mills Hill girls were in the Year Three/Four shake-up, but they had to settle for joint second in the end with Chadderton Hall behind Hulme Estcourt.

Hulme Court were also among the medals.

Tom Andrew won the Year Five/Six boys’ race, from Thorp’s Ryan Slater, with Alex Trippier (St Joseph’s) in third place.

Jacob Brierley and William Maloney finished second and third to help Hulme Court take top honours in the Year Three/Four boys’ team competition. The race was won by Mason Shoel, representing St Joseph’s, who were runners-up in the team standings, from Chadderton Hall.
