Appeal to find owner of kitten with badly broken leg

Date published: 05 January 2024

The RSPCA is appealing for information after a kitten with a bandaged and broken leg was found straying in an Oldham street.

The black cat was found with a bandage wrapped around their leg.

The bandage appeared to have been put on by an owner rather than a vet.

It’s as of yet unknown if the cat was abandoned, or had gone missing from their home.

They were found on Rock Street in Oldham on Saturday, December 30.

Sadly, the cat deteriorated at the vets and was put to sleep to end their suffering.

The cat wasn’t microchipped so the RSPCA is making an appeal for the owner to come forward.

Animal rescue officer Ross Allan said: “The cat was found struggling to walk and was pulling their back legs behind them, so they were clearly in a lot of pain.

"A vet examination showed that the kitten had a badly broken leg.

“We have made enquiries in the local area and have put up posters, but we have had no luck so far.

“We don’t know if the cat was abandoned or is being missed by an owner, so we are urging anyone with information about the cat to get in touch with us.”

In 2023, the RSPCA received 20,995 reports of an abandoned animal - more than in 2022, 2021 and 2020.

Mr Allan added: “Sadly, animal neglect and abandonment calls to us are at a three-year high, which is why we need our supporters to join the winter rescue to help more animals like this poor cat.”

Those with information can call the RSPCA’s appeals line on 0300 123 8018, quoting reference 01202799.
