CONNOR RIPLEY . . . Made some excellent saves.
BOLTON 2, ATHLETIC 0
ZACH Clough's double saw Bolton take the derby honours at the Macron Stadium.
The Wanderers forward shaped a 10th-minute free-kick over the visitors' defensive wall to leave Connor Ripley rooted to the spot.
Ripley saved superbly, twice, to deny David Wheater's header and then Sammy Ameobi's low effort as the hosts broke.
Paul Green went within a whisker of levelling for Athletic in the first half and after the break, Carl Winchester fired in a host of shots that he couldn't quite get on target.
Clough's second came on 77 minutes. A corner wasn't cleared and though Ripley saved initially with his legs, the Bolton man turned the rebound into the roof of the net to make sure of Athletic's first loss away from home in the league since the opening day of the season.
