GOAL . . . Peter Clarke
LINCOLN CITY 3, ATHLETIC 2
ATHLETIC were dumped out of the FA Cup at the second-round stage despite a second-half fightback at Sincil Bank.
Two goals from Theo Robinson and one from Terry Hawkridge handed the Conference leaders a comfortable lead.
Though Peter Clarke and then substitute Billy Mckay reduced the arrears, the Imps held on to make it through to a third-round date at Ipswich Town.
Robinson got his first on 22 minutes, turning home from close range as Athletic's defence hesitated, before Hawkridge ran clear on goal to slot a second after taking advantage of a woeful Carl Winchester pass.
Two minutes after half-time, Lincoln made it 3-0 when Robinson raced onto a lobbed through ball to beat a static defence and turn home neatly.
Lee Erwin had a shot tipped over and Clarke rose to power home an Ollie Banks corner in the 70th minute.
Mckay finished clinically from Erwin's flick to put the tie back in the balance on 74 minutes, but time ran out for Athletic with no equaliser forthcoming.
