ONLY one match into the league campaign, Lewis Alessandra is already staking a major claim to be part of Athletic’s starting line-up.

The striker came off the bench to score against Millwall on Saturday, adding to the three goals he had grabbed in pre-season.

Alessandra (19), Athletic’s reigning young player of the year, had to wait for his chance last season after suffering a broken metatarsal.

He eventually made 12 starts and four substitute appearances, scoring twice, and has always looked a fine prospect.

ATHLETIC had to wear last season’s kit on Saturday after the arrival of their new strip was delayed.
A new batch, with a slightly different design, has been manufactured in China following the link-up with JD Sports, but there wasn’t enough time to have it ready for the big kick-off.

Athletic had the name of their new sponsor, Carbrini Sportswear, printed on existing shirts.

THE Boundary Park scoreboard, which had been out of operation for several years, has now been officially decommissioned and replaced with an advertising board for Leesfield Developments, the new sponsors of the Rochdale Road End.

HUDDERSFIELD’S visit to Boundary Park on September 27 will be the first time this season Athletic need the large section of the Rochdale Road End (RRE) for away fans.

Season-ticket holders in the RRE will be moved to the small section, which only has 1,600 seats and will not satisfy demand from Huddersfield.

Season-ticket holders wishing to ensure they sit together can be given reserved seating in advance.

They should take their books to the Boundary Park ticket office by Friday, September 26, or earlier if possible.

OLDHAM Athletic Supporters’ Association are holding a quiz night in the Boundary Park sponsors’ lounge next Monday (7.30pm).
