ATHLETIC winger Chris Taylor has missed out on the League One player of the month award.

Taylor was shortlisted for the honour following his superb displays throughout August, but it was instead given to Carlisle striker Danny Graham.

Athletic’s highly-rated 21-year-old scored four goals in four league matches – the winning free-kick against Millwall, a brace to beat Leeds and the strike which launched their comeback from 2-0 down at Colchester.

His all-round game caught the eye, but he is the second Athletic man to be overlooked after John Sheridan fell just short in the manager of the month category.

Sheridan’s side, who are setting the pace in League One, could be faced by an experienced international striker in Saturday’s home clash with MK Dons.

The Dons have received clearance to play Canada’s Ali Gerba, who had been awaiting his work permit for over a month.

Gerba (26) has a fine record with Canada and will link up with his new club after tomorrow’s World Cup qualifying match against Mexico.

He has played for a number of clubs in North America and Scandinavia, including top Swedish team IFK Gothenburg.

Athletic fans are advised to buy tickets in advance for the game at Hartlepool United on Saturday week.

Tickets are now on sale at Boundary Park as demand is expected to be high for the away club’s 964-seat allocation.

Prices are £20 for adults or £10 for under-16s, over-65s and full-time students with proof of ID.
