EXCITING new recruit Danny Jones is out to make a point during his loan spell at Boundary Park.
Jones had a storming game at left-back against Hereford on Sunday, but Mick McCarthy, the manager of his parent club Wolves, thinks he is playing out of position.
Jones revealed: “I’ve got a difference of opinion with the manager because he thinks I’m better as a winger.
“I prefer left-back because I’m quite big and powerful and I like running on to things from a bit deeper.
“I’m happy anywhere as long as I’m playing games, but it takes me longer to wind up a bit and use my pace if I’m on the wing.
“I’ve settled in really well here and ideally I’d like a run at left-back.”
Jones (21) made one goal and smashed in another on his Athletic home debut, but he insisted: “I was more pleased to get the three points.
“It was nice to score, but Chris Taylor did all the hard work and I just swung my boot.
“It could have been a lot more than 4-0 because we battered Hereford and they didn’t really trouble us at all.
“We’ve got Leicester next, but if we keep it tight at the back we know the front players will give us a chance of beating them.”
THERE was a bizarre postscript to Athletic’s victory over rock-bottom Hereford.
It appears the visitors were forced to replace one of their best players in a case of the missing boots.
Athletic were 2-0 up when Bradley Hudson-Odoi, Hereford’s three-goal top scorer, was substituted after half an hour.
One of his boots was ripped and it seems the forward couldn’t continue as he had no spare pair.
When Hereford manager Graham Turner was asked whether this was true, he would only reply: “No comment.”
TICKETS for the league game at Bristol Rovers next Tuesday are now on sale at Boundary Park.
Athletic have been allocated 1,000 standing places at the side of the pitch and 290 seats in a covered area behind the goal.
Standing places bought in advance are priced at £15 (adults) or £8 (over-65s, under-16s and students).
Seats bought in advance cost £17.50 or £9.50, while supporters who wish to pay on the night should add £2 to all prices.
