MATT WOLFENDEN is anxiously waiting for test results after sustaining his third injury this season.

The unfortunate Athletic striker could be out for up to two months if the player’s worst fears are confirmed and the scan shows up serious ankle ligament damage.

Another lengthy spell on the sidelines would be a huge body blow for the 21-year-old as he attempts to revive his first-team career at Boundary Park.

He has broken down twice already this season, which has restricted the youngster to just one appearance off the substitutes’ bench in the FA Cup defeat by Cheltenham Town.

This latest setback came late on in the reserves’ 5-3 win over Huddersfield Town.

He was on his way back from a troublesome knee injury after earlier being sidelined with a thigh muscle problem, which had kept him out until the end of September.

Depending on the results of the scan, it could well be into the New Year before Wolfenden can start pushing for a recall into John Sheridan’s match-day squad.

Meanwhile, Athletic officials are urging supporters to purchase tickets before they travel to the Coca-Cola League One games at Crewe (Boxing Day) and Huddersfield Town (January 3) over the festive period.

The match at Crewe is all ticket for away fans.
