ALL ANGLES COVERED . . . the new Athletic carpet is given an airing by Paul Rodman and Latics players Lewis Alessandra and Mark Allott.
ATHLETIC have wiped the floor with the opposition . . . and it has nothing to do with the exploits of John Sheridan’s promotion-chasing team.
Athletic have taken delivery of a special club carpet, and the opening sample of the blue floor covering containing the club’s crest went on view for the first time at Boundary Park.
Athletic have become the first of the 92 Football League clubs to be signed up by Kendal-based Sports Carpets Limited who have produced the design and had the 100-per-cent nylon carpet manufactured in the United Kingdom.
The initial production run has been for 300 square metres and the carpet is four metres wide and described as suitable for a variety of uses.
“It could be used for anything from a living room and child's bedroom to a pub, bar or snooker hall,” explained Sports Carpets managing director Paul Rodman.
Sports Carpets are hoping Athletic will be a trailblazer and that other league clubs will sign up after becoming aware of their initiative.
Athletic are to auction a 4m x 3m carpet, the first piece to be manufactured, in order to raise funds for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. Bids can be made at www.oldhamathletic.co.uk
Further details about the carpet, which can be ordered online, are available at www.sportscarpets.co.uk
