UNLUCKY Athletic youngster Rico Ramsey has had his scholarship at Boundary Park suspended after suffering a second anterior cruciate knee-ligament injury.
This latest setback came during a training session in December and he had an operation last week.
It is unlikely Ramsey, a second-year scholar, will be back before February 2010.
Ramsay’s scholarship has been put on hold to enable him to claim incapacity benefit and it will resume once he has regained fitness.
He sustained an identical injury in October 2007, this time in a match, in his first season as a trainee.
ATHLETIC defeated Chester 4-0 at Chapel Road in the North-West Conference of the Puma Youth Alliance.
Athletic took control with first-half goals from Ryan Brooke, schoolboy Leroy Chinthenghan and Phillip McGrath and added another in the second period through Nathan Kilcourse.
Coach Tony Philliskirk was delighted with the type of football his young side, which featured a number of schoolboys, played.
He said: “We defended very well and were a threat going forward. We took our chances, unlike the previous week against Wrexham when we did everything but find the net.”
Athletic meet Accrington Stanley in a league game at Chapel Road on Saturday (11am).
