Big Joe is welcomed back with open arms

Date published: 17 March 2009

WE must all welcome back Joe and show our joy by turning up to support him — not just 4,000.

We shouldn't expect miracles yet. He's got some weeding-out to do first.

Why only until the end of the season? Surely we could find a permanent and appropriate role for Joe (if he's willing)?

JACK SCHOFIELD

WELCOME back Big Joe. Yes, he did get us into the big time. No, he couldn't keep us there. And yes, then he left.

1, He got us there. 2, He couldn't keep us there as the board wouldn't give him the money. 3, He left and who can blame him? Better money, better opportunities.

NOW it’s time for the players to stand up and be counted – get stuck in and work as hard as the fans do all week so they can afford to come and watch them.

They should play the game with a smile on their faces and destroy the teams in front of them for the rest of the season: their prize, a trip to Wembley and Championship football next season.

How much motivation do they need? They have got the best manager we ever had at Boundary Park.

MARK JACQUES

WELCOME back, Joe. This is the best news we've had since that moment just before Mark Hughes' goal in the FA Cup semi-final.

I wish you all the best from London. Get shot of Gregan.

MATT SCHOFIELD

GOOD luck, Joe. If you need any help, how about a team-bonding session at Belle Vue . . . Superbowl!

DAVE WARBY

TALK about Have-a-go Joe. You have a mountain to climb, but I know you can do it. Best of luck.

WATCHER

WELCOME back Genial Joe and many thanks and good luck to John Sheridan. I wonder if there is any chance we could get the plastic pitch back, too?

BOB

GIVE him the job full time if he wants it. He’s already a success in the eyes of the fans and deserves a full season.

SOUNDS like Joe is going to have to tell one or two where exactly they stand and who is the real gaffer.

LAZYBONES

WELCOME back, Joe. The return of Royle Fever, as my father always said. Sore throats and hangovers.

NO-ONE in the history of this club has achieved so much. Remember the pinch-me seasons?

I can't believe he will manage that again but get behind Big Joe. He is a legend and I for one am delighted he is back.

BESTIE

LET’S get that yard dog spirit back!

I’m delighted Big Joe is back. Hopefully, a smile will return to the club and the town.

I CAN’T share the euphoria. Joe's last act before he left his sinking (relegated) ship, was to recommend Graeme Sharp as his successor, and look where that got us - back to the old third division after an absence of 23 years.
